Ingenuity Works donates All the Right Type 3 Plus to Kalagala High School in Uganda
Alison Wagler helped lead a team from Canada to Kalagala High School, Uganda to build a soccer field, and set up a computer lab.
"The school we visited has 367 students studying in Senior 1 through Senior 6. For this school there were about 6 functioning computers, mostly laptops and one desktop which was not working when we left! The power supply is very unreliable being in a village about one hour from Kampala which is a challenge for the computer lab. We were able to install All The Right Type on all of the computers.
When we assessed the situation, it seemed clear that the best strategy would be to start with the teachers. I was amazed to find that none of them had ever used a computer or touched a keyboard before. They were all so eager to begin and to make the most of the opportunity to learn and eventually to teach the students. We have left the school with the teachers in full swing of practice their keyboarding skills. They will continue to focus on the teachers through the Fall and then will begin teaching the students in January. We did open up the lab during free time for some of the students but you can imagine the demand outweighed the availability.
I have included a letter written by the Bursar of the school in gratitude for the program you have sent. She said that other people had tried to show them how to use the computers before but without any keyboarding skills they were unable to make use of the computers until now. They have basically been sitting in a storage room. Now they will be in full use.
I also wanted to express my gratitude for your generosity in trusting us with this program. It was truly amazing to see how that gift is opening up new possibilities for the school."
